Jia Wenjian, president of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), recently led a delegation to the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) for a two-day visit that included high-profile meetings and the signing of new academic agreements.

The delegation began on July 26 by calling on Wu Zhiliang, president of the board of directors of the Macao Foundation, and an alumnus as well as an honorary professor of BFSU.

Jia briefed Wu on the university's latest work in Portuguese-language education, area studies, and global governance training. The two sides held extensive discussions on shaping global perceptions of China through academic exchange and publishing.

Wu urged BFSU to continue harnessing its multilingual and regional research strengths to serve as a bridge between Chinese and Western civilizations.

That same day, the delegation visited the Macao Millennium College for talks on AI-empowered education, digital language services, and Portuguese talent cultivation, with both sides eyeing future collaboration within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

On July 27, the 2026 Asia-Pacific Youth Model United Nations & Youth Forum on Global Competence opened at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), where Jia delivered a keynote speech.

Hosted by BFSU and co-organized by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and MUST, the event brought together over 260 young delegates from the United States, Spain, Germany, Malaysia, Armenia, Panama, and China, who deliberated on global security, governance reform, sustainable development, and digitalization.

During the conference, Jia and MUST Vice-President Pang Chuan exchanged a bilateral cooperation agreement.

The delegation then visited the City University of Macau, where both sides explored deepened cooperation in digital humanities, data science, "Portuguese-plus" interdisciplinary programs, and AI.

The trip concluded at the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the Macao SAR, where Commissioner Bian Lixin expressed strong support for BFSU's Macao engagement and its global governance capacity-building initiatives.

This visit represents a milestone in BFSU's global strategy, consolidating its leadership in international talent cultivation while advancing Greater Bay Area development and strengthening China's people-to-people ties with Portuguese-speaking countries and the Global South.
