Zeng Xingcheng, a 2025 master's student in Chinese-English conference interpreting at the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), has won first prize in the English-to-Chinese category of the recent 17th St. Jerome Translation Contest.
The awards ceremony was held online.
Launched in 2005 by the English translation service at United Nations headquarters and named after St. Jerome, the contest commemorates International Translation Day, observed each year on Sept 30, promotes multilingualism and highlights the important role of translation in international communication.
The 17th edition covered six language directions: French into English, and English into Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish. Each direction awards one first prize and up to one honorable mention.
BFSU faculty members Li Changshuan, Zhang Yuqing and Zhang Lu coached the university's participants. Yan Sihan, also a 2025 master's student in Chinese-English conference interpreting, was invited to serve as one of the interpreters for the awards ceremony, providing simultaneous interpreting support that was well received.
The award reflects the strong bilingual proficiency and cross-cultural communication skills of BFSU students, and the university's commitment to practice-oriented education in translation and interpreting.
