According to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Energy Bureau, the "General Plan for the Inner Mongolia Xinjie Coal Mining Area (Revision)" has been approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, making it the fourth general plan for coal mining areas approved during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period in Inner Mongolia.

The Xinjie coal mining area is the first of its kind in Inner Mongolia that has been approved by the state in 2024. Located in the southern part of the Dongsheng Coal Field in Ordos, it is the most important mining area of the national large-scale Shendong Coal Base and the main mining area for the continuation of coal capacity in western Inner Mongolia.

The Xinjie coal mining area has a total annual production capacity of 59 million metric tons and consists of seven planned mines ranging from the largest at 13 million tons per year to the smallest at 4 million tons per year. Among these, three are recently established underground mines with a combined annual production capacity of 20 million tons.

According to the regional energy bureau, the general plan of the mining area is the fundamental basis for coal mining development, and the approval of the plan for the Xinjie coal mining area will help accelerate the release of high-quality production capacity, increasing coal supplies and guaranteeing a stable and continuous supply.
