China Geological Survey (CGS), under the Ministry of Natural Resources, recently announced the discovery of a substantial uranium deposit in the Jingchuan area of Ordos Basin in the country's northwestern region.
The discovery represents the first ultra-large uranium deposit in the world to be found in a region dominated by Aeolian sandstone. It is a joint achievement between CGS, Changqing Oilfield Co of China National Petroleum Corporation, China Nuclear Geology, and provincial geological survey units.
In addition to the approximately 200,000 square kilometers of the Ordos Basin, China has extensive developments of Aeolian sandstone, widely distributed across oil and gas-bearing basins such as the Tarim Basin, Junggar Basin, and Songliao Basin.
The discovery of the Jingchuan uranium deposit marks a breakthrough in uranium exploration, significantly increasing the country's uranium resources and enhancing the security of its uranium supply.
