In a recent interview, Zhang Zhongping, head of Hanggin Banner in Ordos, stated that this year, Hanggin Banner will closely follow the arrangements outlined in the municipal government work report. The banner will adhere to an eco-first, green development approach while continuously promoting the growth of specialty industries and advancing ecological conservation.
Endowed with abundant wind and solar resources, Hanggin Banner boasts distinctive advantages for developing new energy industries. Of the four new energy transmission base projects in Ordos, three are situated in Hanggin Banner.
The banner has launched an integrated project combining sand prevention and control with wind and photovoltaic power generation. This initiative emphasizes coordinated spatial planning for ecological construction, tourism development, and new energy exploitation to achieve optimal resource utilization.
Zhang said that in the upcoming phase, the banner will increase its efforts to attract investment, relying on the market advantages brought by implementing large-scale new energy base projects, green electricity, and low factor costs. Efforts will also be made to build three industrial bases for green chemicals, green new materials, and green high-energy-consuming industries, striving to transform the banner's new energy resource advantages into project, industrial, and economic strengths.

In 2024, Hanggin Banner intensified the implementation of projects such as the Three-North Forest Shelterbelt Project, anti-desertification projects, and integrated wind power and photovoltaic projects. These restored 1.84 million mu (122,400 hectares) of forest and grassland, exceeding the annual target of 1.44 million mu.
"We will fully implement the '1+4' ecological project model and the 'work-for-relief' mechanism that benefits farmers and encourages them to participate," said Zhang. "We will mobilize more people to join our efforts, ensuring they can contribute to and benefit from ecological construction. We aim to complete over 1 million mu of forest and grassland ecological construction tasks by the end of 2025. Regarding ecological governance and protection, Hanggin Banner is duty-bound and must take the lead in the city."
