The project is designed with 96 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6.25MW, and a 220-kilovolt booster station, involving a total investment of 3.5 billion yuan ($ 478.8 million).
"So far, we have finished 87 percent of the road maintenance, leveled the ground for the booster station, built 74 lifting platforms, 31 foundations for the turbines, and 52 foundations for the power lines," said Liu Dongqi, a project contractor company staff member.
"We plan to finish the construction of roads, bases, and the general office building in the first half of the year. By the end of the year, all turbines should be assembled, and the project will be connected to the grid," Liu added.
The Nuanshui 600MW wind power project is among China's second batch of giant new energy bases. It is expected to generate 1.66 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, improving the local energy structure by increasing the share of non-fossil energy.
The project also boasts significant economic and social benefits. It can reduce standard coal consumption by about 500,000 metric tons and carbon dioxide emission by 1.4 million tons, safeguarding air quality.
