Sulige Gas Field, located in the Ordos Basin, achieved an annual natural gas production of 30.06 billion cubic meters on Dec 19, 2025, marking the fourth consecutive year it has surpassed the 30 billion cu m milestone.
This production level is equivalent to supplying gas for approximately 82 million households annually, effectively alleviating natural gas shortages in more than 50 major and medium-sized cities in northern China.

As the largest onshore tight gas field in China in terms of proven reserves, Sulige Gas Field achieved several historic breakthroughs this year. "We have promoted digital and intelligent upgrades, overcoming seven industry challenges such as seismic prediction for thin tight gas reservoirs, horizontal well development, and high-pressure fracturing of tight gas," said Yang Shunzhi, chief geologist at the Sulige Gas Field. "Thirteen of our innovations have filled domestic and industry gaps, serving as a 'cornerstone' for national energy security."
The gas field has built an intelligent control network that covers the entire process of gas extraction, gathering, transportation, and processing. This enables 100 percent remote monitoring of the production status of gathering stations and key equipment, enhancing execution efficiency by over 40 percent.
Since its commissioning over two decades ago, Sulige Gas Field has produced over 400 billion cu m of natural gas, contributing nearly one-seventh of the country's total natural gas output. It has benefited 1.34 billion households, providing consistent support for China's livelihood and economic development.
