Ordos' R&D funding has reached 5.32 billion yuan ($748.52 million) this year, ranking second in the region, with an increase of 910 million yuan compared to the previous year. The city's R&D funding grew by 20.6 percent, marking the third straight year of double digit increases and higher than its GDP growth rate.
On Sept 15, 2017, the 13th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP13) came to a close in Ordos, and achieved strong results.
The Xi-wu Highway, which extends from Xini town in Hanggin Banner, Ordos city, to Wulashan town in Bayannuur city, was constructed in 1998. It is 115 kilometers long, with 100 km in Hanggin Banner and 50 km traversing the renowned Kubuqi Desert. That's why the highway is known as the "Desert-crossing Highway".
Recently, a demonstration of mechanical operation between solar panels was carried out in the Kubuqi Desert in Dalad Banner, Ordos. Five new-type robots designed to carry out comprehensive desert treatment operated simultaneously.
In recent years, Uxin Banner in Ordos, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been focusing on the comprehensive control of desertification and the promotion of environmental development projects such as the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program.
