It feels almost impossible to imagine a world without the internet. 

如今数十亿人每天都在使用互联网， 

Billions and billions use it every day to stay in contact with friends and family, 

与朋友和家人保持联系，进行商业往来，

to run our businesses, or to get the answers

to just about any question that we might have.

There is no doubt, the access to the internet has fundamentally changed

the way we live and work.

It is crazy to think that just some 27 years ago in 1995

that global internet penetration was zero.

But since those early days, the internet has grown rapidly, 

2014年首届世界互联网大会召开时， 

and in 2014, when the World Internet Conference was first held, 

互联网用户数量达到了30亿。

there were more than 3 billion people using the internet. 

如今，全球已共有近46亿互联网用户， 

Well, today there are almost 4.6 billion people accessing the internet, 

其中42亿用户在使用移动互联网， 

and 4.2 billion of them using the mobile internet, 

预计这一数字到2025年将增长至50亿以上。

with those numbers expected to grow to more than 5 billion by 2025.

It is an incredible story of growth and opportunity

which shows no signs of slowing down.

We are now seeing 5G begin to take off from the world

with China as one of the global pioneers,

and with it we are seeing even more transformation

with 5G automating our factories,

connecting our cities, connecting transport,

providing innovative healthcare, and remaking education.

And of course, the metaverse and Web 3.0 are at the forefront

of everyone’s minds as we enter this new era of intelligent connectivity.

I do not think there has ever been a more exciting time to imagine the future that lies ahead.

But we must consider it carefully.

Globally, just under half the world’s population still needs to be connected,

that is about 3.7 billion people who are not yet benefitting from access to the mobile internet.

This is made up of 450 million people who live outside areas covered by mobile broadband

and 3.2 billion people who live in areas covered by mobile broadband

but do not yet use mobile internet. 

因此，在致力于建设一个更美好的未来、

So as we work towards building a better future, 

和一个更包容互联的社会时， 

and more inclusive and connected society, 

我们必须专注于缩小这些差距， 

we must focus on closing these gaps to make sure that

everyone has the chance to benefit from

the transformational power of access to the internet.

we need to work on addressing the market imbalances
