The library of Beijing Foreign Studies University currently has a collection of books in 74 languages, including Chinese, English, French, Russian, German, Spanish, Japanese and Arabic. The library houses a total of nearly 1.53 million volumes of literature, nearly 2.16 million electronic books, 1,123 Chinese and foreign language newspapers and periodicals, more than 10,000 pieces of various audio-visual materials, more than 38,000 full-text electronic journals in Chinese and foreign languages, 102 Chinese and foreign language databases, and nine self-built databases with special features. The collection is mainly about language studies, literature and culture, and, with the university's academic development, the number of books on law, diplomacy, economics, journalism and management has been steadily increasing.

The new six-storey library was built and opened in 2013. With a total area of 23,000 square meters, it provides more than 2,200 reading seats, 18 study rooms, academic lecture halls, academic seminar halls and training rooms. It also provides cultural and leisure venues such as exhibition halls and cafes.

The new library has Wi-Fi access, and a 24-hour device that enables people to return their borrowed books at any time. It also has printers, photocopiers, scanners, book lending-and-returning devices, electronic navigators, electronic newspaper readers and other self-service equipment. The library has areas dedicated to electronic reading and multimedia learning. There are convenient information displays as well.
