
Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) commenced legal education in the early 21st century. Since the establishment of its Department of Law in 2001 and the subsequent establishment of the School of Law (BFSULAW) in 2006, BFSULAW has achieved notable progress. It has assembled a distinguished faculty with a balanced structure encompassing various legal disciplines and areas of legal expertise, thereby fostering comprehensive legal education and talent development.
In 2010, BFSULAW was granted the authority to confer first-level Master of Laws degrees. It was selected as one of the first "Outstanding Legal Talent Education and Training Bases for Foreign-Related Legal Affairs" in 2012. In 2016, BFSULAW established a Ph.D. program in International Law and Regional Governance, and in 2018, a Juris Master (J.M.) program. In 2019, its undergraduate law program was recognized as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program.
Academic Program Development and Recognition
Since its inception, BFSULAW has consistently expanded and enhanced its academic offerings and reputation. Building on this foundation, BFSULAW established a Ph.D. program specializing in International Law and Regional Governance in 2016, offering advanced research opportunities and advancing scholarship in critical areas of law. The school’s academic portfolio was further expanded in 2018 with the introduction of the Juris Master (J.M.) program, broadening graduate-level professional education in law.
In recognition of its efforts to foster excellence in legal education, BFSULAW’s undergraduate law program was honored in 2019 as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program, a testament to the quality and prestige of its academic offerings.
Currently, BFSULAW enrolls both domestic and international students, offering Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), Master of Laws (LL.M.), Juris Master (J.M.), and Doctor of Law (Ph.D.) degrees, along with postdoctoral research opportunities.
