The French School of Asian Studies was founded in 1898 in Saigon. Under the supervision of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the French School of Asian Studies conducts interdisciplinary research on the civilizations of Asia from India to Japan, especially on the classical civilizations of Asia through the humanities and social sciences. Its projects bring together leading scholars in the fields of anthropology, archaeology, history, philology, and religious studies. In 1997, the French School of Asian Studies established a permanent center in Beijing.
