The Institute of Chinese Folk Culture of Sichuan University was established in 2000 and was a key research base for humanities and social sciences under the Ministry of Education. The institute has four research directions: folk language, literature, beliefs, and anthropology, covering multiple disciplines, such as linguistics, literature, history, religious studies, folklore, and anthropology.
The research institute inherits and carries forward Qianjia School and a modern "Shu Studies" tradition, focusing on historical popular culture as the object, and based on literature passed down and unearthed, constructing an academic method system for studying Chinese Folk Culture. The institute compiles and publishes four academic collections: Research on Chinese Folk Culture, Collection of Chinese History Studies, New Chinese Studies, and Research on Literary Anthropology.
