Development is the eternal pursuit of humanity. The implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is the core mission of current international development cooperation. The compounded impacts of once-in-a-century pandemic and changes have put the international development cause at a crossroads. In September 2021, at the general debate of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly, Chinese President Xi Jinping put forward the "Building on 2030 SDGs for Stronger, Greener and Healthier Global Development" Initiative (hereinafter referred to as "Global Development Initiative", or "GDI"). The GDI aims to pool efforts to tackle challenges, promote post-COVID recovery and seize opportunities so as to open up a bright future for achieving common sustainable development and building a global development community. The Global Development Initiative advocates seeking harmony between humanity and nature, promoting innovation-driven development and deepening the global development partnership. It identifies priority areas including poverty alleviation, food security, COVID-19 and vaccines, financing for development, climate change and green development, industrialization, digital economy, and connectivity. The GDI follows a people-centered approach as the core principle, and takes the betterment of the well-being of people in all countries as the ultimate goal. The GDI, conforming to the trend of peace and development of our times and meeting the international community's aspiration for further development, provides new ideas and strategies and offers China's approach and wisdom for global development.

The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) inviteds renowned scholars and experts on international development cooperation both at home and abroad to share understandings of the Global Development Initiative, exchange experience on implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, discuss approaches to jointly promoting global development, and offer intellectual support for the progress towards stronger, greener and healthier global development, with a focus on the following four topics: economic recovery and growth impetus, poverty alleviation and inclusive development, technological innovation and sustainable development, and global development partnership and win-win cooperation.
