The CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping at its core has integrated the basic tenets of Marxism with China's realities and the best of its traditional culture, and has united the whole Party and the whole country and led them in pursuing a great struggle and a great transformation in the new era. The Selected Readings is designed to help readers better understand the important theoretical innovations involved in this process and the guiding role of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in the drive to build China into a modern socialist country and on the journey to national rejuvenation.
The Selected Readings begins with Xi Jinping's report to the 20th CPC National Congress – "Uphold Socialism with Chinese Characteristics and Strive in Unity to Build a Modern Socialist Country in All Respects". The subsequent material is arranged in chronological order.
In Volume I, Xi's report to the 20th CPC National Congress is followed by a compilation of 71 of his spoken and written works from November 2012 to October 2017, including works published for the first time.
