​WACS President Xie Fuzhan visits Italy for academic exchange

WACS President Xie Fuzhan leads a delegation to visit Università degli Studi di Napoli L' Orientale.

Xie Fuzhan, President of the World Association for China Studies (WACS), led a delegation to visit Italy from June 1 to 5, 2024, at the invitation of Università degli Studi di Napoli L'Orientale and Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and other institutions. China studies in Italy has a long history and has gone through various stages of development, including missionary Sinology, professional Sinology, and the development from traditional Sinology to China studies. Italy has numerous China studies academic research institutions and famous experts and scholars. This visit explored the research and development of China studies in Italy. It also introduced the WACS and responded to questions from relevant institutions and scholars. The visit also shared "China in academia" and "China in philosophy and social sciences".

During the visit, the delegation visited the Università degli Studi di Napoli L' Orientale, where they conducted in-depth discussions with leaders and relevant scholars of the university on Chinese history and culture and Italian China studies. The delegation also visited EURISPES–Istituto di Studi Politici Economici e Sociali and Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Both sides exchanged views on the history and current status of Italian China studies, the economic and social development of China and Europe, and cultural and academic exchange between China and the West. In addition, the delegation visited the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Italy to learn about academic exchange and cooperation between China and Italy in recent years.

The delegation introduced the relevant work of the WACS and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The Italian institutions and experts participating in exchange believe that the establishment of the WACS is of great significance for promoting global research and exchange cooperation in China studies. Relevant scholars expressed their desire to join the WACS and looked forward to using it as a platform to further research in China studies.
